Poo Wright-Pulliam has been drawing, painting, or creating art for as long as she can remember. She enjoyed taking art classes each year through high school and majored in art at Boise State University. In 1973, Poo moved to Ketchum in Idaho’s Wood River Valley. It was there that opportunities presented themselves, allowing Poo to learn, explore, develop, and expand her talents.
Poo quickly embraced new methods and new mediums she had not learned in school. She is self-taught in scratchboard, watercolor, and painting ceramics. In 1987, she undertook a graphite drawing class from renowned artist, Loree McNee. For Poo, this experience launched a career in pet portraits that continues today. She has also studied with artists, Jennifer Bellinger, Abby Grosvenor, Laura Vogel, Shari Blaukoff, and Kath Macaulay.
Poo’s work represents a lifelong connection with nature and wildlife. Since 2015, she has participated in various Artist-in-Residence programs. She has been a member of the Wood River Studio Tour, TAG –The Artist Group, Plein Air Painters of Idaho and participates in solo and group exhibits. Notably, her work has been a part of the Sawtooth Botanical Garden Tour 2020 and 2016, Flora of the National Parks 100th Anniversary 2016 at the U.S. Botanic Garden in Washington D.C., The Hailey Garden Tour 2008, and the Summer Of Labs 2001. She has been recognized by ArtBuzz 2013 Collection and the Wyoming Conservation Stamp Competition 2001 and 1998.
Poo lives with her husband, Dan, in The Wood River Valley. When not in the studio or painting en plein air, Poo enjoys birding and volunteering for birding tours. Exploring the natural beauty of the world around her is a vital inspiration for her art.
